| Why use a Yacht Broker What exactly is a “Yacht Broker”, is it somebody who sells your boat or helps you find a boat? Well, that is partially true and there are a lot of brokers in the industry who are primarily focused on the commission side of the equation. If the boat is not big enough, they won’t waste their time. I’ve often heard brokers tell me that all that I have to sell is my time? Well, I don’t believe that and it has been my experience when I retired dealing with other, so called Yacht Brokers, that their knowledge, commitment and abilities were far from professional, and after spending a couple of years trying to find the right boat, I decided that I could do a better job than most of the brokers that I had come in contact with. Using a Yacht Broker is not for everyone, some people believe that they can sell the boat themselves and if so that is great and will save them money in the process. But not everyone has the time, skill set, or desire to put up with the buying public to say nothing about the time when somebody calls and want to see the boat now and disrupting your schedule to go and show the boat to somebody that is just looking or has another boat to sell before they can buy another one. I have written a document that explains the complete process of Buying and Selling a Boat and it is available by clicking on the button at the bottom of the page. This document is always changing and being upgraded and we invite you comments or questions regarding the process. “The Brokerage Process” Down Load PDF The decision to use a “Yacht Broker” is a personal one and I have found that in life most of our choices as to who, what and when we make decisions are built on the following: Professionalism Knowledge A degree of trust and mutual respect My advice is to sit down with the Broker and just talk about boats in general, determine how they will go about selling your boat, what are the fees and what are they going to do in the process, and most importantly their knowledge of the market and your particular type of vessel. Also, probably the best method is to talk to other boaters about the firm and their experience with the company. The boating community is a small community and good people that provide good service and products are usually well known for a reason. |
